My first really nice bike (Atala with Campy NR) also had a very unusual water bottle cage made by REG in the late '60s. It actually comprised 2 pieces: the first was the mount for the cage which was attached to the frame with straps in the usual way. Then, the actual cage was attached to that first piece using a sliding quick release mechanism. Sadly, I no longer have this cage and I've never seen another. Does anyone here remember them or have one? Anyway what could it's purpose have been? Were you supposed to remove the actual cage section for time trials? Did they have different size bottle/cage combinations for long distance touring of for different beverages? Or what??? Regards, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia
