Well, yes, 1979 to be exact. I have a Benotto catalog from a few years before and another from a few years later, and all the bikes are described as being built with Columbus tubing (except the cheap bikes, which were described as simply "steel tubing").

So that's the main reason why I was puzzled over an Italian bike being built with 531DB. But it was a team bike from the Vuelta d'Espana, and team bikes are sometimes built with different or unusual specs.

However, finding out that Masi, Cinelli, Frejus, Legnano and Viner also built bikes with Reynolds tubing makes my 531DB decals more understandable.
