Even al ol' rider of the boards, Schwinn Paramount dealer from the 60's, and owner of several dozen P13's and P14's can learn something!

After checking through several dozen boxes of new Pista and Strada hubs and pouring through bins of loose used ones, I have not found any Pista hubs with a QR!

It used to be easy to spot a 'converted' QR track hub, but even a savvt counterfeiter could make a strong case. Installing a QR axle set and skewer would allow a track hub to have QR, and many of us used those on our fixed gear commuters.

On the tracks on which I've competed, Lehigh most often, QR was absolutely banned, even with hose clamps, duct tape, and even the 'leverless QR units like HiE that used a relieved and specially-machined dropout, like a positive retention device on a road fork.

The Pista hubs had no oil clip, the Strada hub did. While the rear Pista hub had left-hend lockring threads, it was distinguishable. The front would rely just on the presence and absence of the oil clip.

In my search I found one abnormality. I found a new tape-sealed box of Pista 36 hole HF hubs with factory oil clips!!

It was easy to add an oil clip to a hub - drill a small hole and snap on a clip.

Some counterfeiters would do this to a Tipo hub (that never had oil clips) when the Tipo had the kidney-shaped flange holes, but most tipos had round holes

I would like to know a third new bit of info iof someone is perusing the catalogs: when did the Tipo's have the kidney holes?

If anyone gets a chance, please post a scan of these, especially of the Pista QR!

I am still in disbelief
