Hello Rod -

I understand you got your answer, but let me offer Trek's (interesting?) practice during at least their first 15 years (1976 - 90) and probably more.

They apparently couldn't quite embrace metric (or thought their buyer's couldn't). The bikes were measured center to center in metric. This is what appears in their geometry drawings. The "frame size" that appears in the specs are given in inches, center to top. A 25.5" frame (center to top) measures 64 cm center to center.

Was this a typical practice for other builders of this time?

Sorry the vintage-trek.com site was down. Site hosting: - cheap - reliable - fast - pick any two. You may have guessed I picked cheap as one of my two.
