Dave,

Clearly, beauty (and utility) is in the eye of the beholder. Up until 1984, I never noticed bicycle components. A bike was a bike, and parts were parts. Then one day, I walked into Gus Betat Cycles on Broad Street here in New Orleans and saw the most beautiful thing ever to grace the shelves of any shop, new Campagnolo Delta brakes. I'd never given a second thought to any bike component before I saw those Delta's! ( they wanted a kings ransom for them, more than even my Motobecan was worth). They opened my eyes to components, and my view of cycles and cycling has never been the same. There's a pair on my Colnago Super which work just fine on the Campy Omega box rims, especially since they're properly adjusted. There's also a guy, here in New Orleans, with a mid 1980's Merlin Ti bike with an original set of Delta's which he claims are "the best". So I'll have to respectfully disagree with your assessment. There are different perspectives. You may call them over designed, even Rubenesque in profile, but I call them beautiful. Someone was so enraptured with this product that they made a definite design statement ---I heard that statement -- I like it!
