I have an early 80s Vitus, which I've only ridden for this last season, having bought it used. It seems to be holding up just fine, but I can say that it seems somewhat sluggish compared to my on-list Colnago and Torpado (both steel) or to my off-list Litespeed. Also the b.b. will flex easily when I pedal hard. Perhaps a crack is in it's future, but probably not; this winter it's to become art on the wall of my closest LBS owner, as the Super Record parts that it was "borrowing" are going on the Torpado SL. A cool guy I know named Roberto rides an old Alan (glued AND screwed) quite regularly throughout the summer, alternating uses back and forth with his old Cinelli. He has ridden it for many years, and says the bike performs great for him. Roberto is very lithe, and quite a spinner, so perhaps that may account for his success there. My closest cyclist friend has on off-topic huge tubed Cannondale MTB that he has ridden hard on singletrack for over 4 years. He up until recently weighed upwards of 275lbs, and was a pedal masher. This bike has seen a great deal of abuse. Again, the frame seems to be holding up fine. My experience...
