Along these lines, my brother got a Colnago/Merckx/Molteni track bike brand new from Turin Cycles in Chicago back in 1973. It arrived in an order w/other Colnago frames and Turin didn't know it was a Merckx/Molteni frame until my brother had paid for the frame and opened the box there on Turin's sales floor. I'd love to find that bike today, as he traded it back to Turin a few years later for Campy parts, as I recall.

And, what has happened to all of Eddy's "official" team bikes from the 60s and 70s? I've only heard of two bikes that claim to be Merckx ridden in competition. Are they out there? Or his teammates bikes? I'd be curious to know if anyone has tried to stalk this wild beast or not. These could be Derosa, Masi or Colnago frames/bikes?

Leave us not forget the really spiffy bike Colnago made and labeled with Merckx's name and likeness. The graphics are about identical to those of the Kessel bikes, as well as to the bikes Merckx eventually made under his ownership. I have brochure featuring the Colnago Merckx, in Molteni orange, with a nicely drilled large chainring, and milled out stem and seat-post...the bike probably dates from 1972 or 73. Very cool, and rather rare to judge from the fact that I've never seen one in the flesh. Maybe few were sold here on the left coast.
