I met up Friday night with a bunch of Alabama buddies in Claxton GA, about 1 hour west of Savannah. Mark Poore and his wife Alice joined us Saturday morning for the Cruisin' in the Country Century. Mark and I rode a metric century and were on the lookout for lugged steel. Surprisingly, we found a few. There was a "hey, there goes a Cinelli" from Mark at one of the rest stops. Then, I found a very nice Spectrum leaning against a building at another fluid and food stop--to Western tunes and a bunch of high school (or younger) girls line dancing. Mark and I spoke with the owner and invited him to join CR. Finally, at the last rest stop before the rest of the group took the 100 mile route, a lady rode in on a nice Colnago Super, or as she corrected us, "Superissimo". I overheard Mark say that it was more his size than hers, but I don't think he made an offer, at least not for the bike. There were a few Raleighs and Bianchis, but for the most part, it was the modern stuff. Nice to see so many riders out though--over 900 were pre-registered. More recumbents and tandems than I've seen on one of these rides, probably because this is such a flat course. And, second ride in a week with Mark, who is always full of good bike stories to help me overcome my pain and suffering. I already have my reservations at the Claxton 'Hilton" for next year. And, at least two of my Alabama buds are going to "try" to come to Greensboro in May. Lou Deeter, Orlando FL
