I was reading one of the Cycle Sport magazines last night and it mentioned that the first woman rode in the Giro D'Italia in the 1920s, 1924 I believe it said. She finished, but outside of the time limit. Does someone know whether this was common in the early years of the tours? Did women also ride the Tour de France and Vuelta? How about the classics?
