I have no idea why they picked on the name of Moth for what is really a classy lightweight. Assume it is something to do with the legendary Tiger Moth aeroplane which is held in high esteem in the UK, aircraft steel 531 etc. or moths being attracted to lights this was a light bike, silly Brit play on words.

On the subject of stupid names for British products there is the classic example of the Rolls Royce Silver Mist a beautiful car in the silver series, unfortunately for RR mist is slang for s---t in German.They soon changed it but the Moth as far as I can remember lasted well into the 60's.
