There is always going to be the element of what quality of equipment is used, lightness of revolving parts for one. But most of us old Brits who use to ride to time trials with our racing wheels in sprint carriers can tell you that with some frames no matter what the cachet of the builders name and regardless of what wheels or equipment used , the bike or frame just feels dead. I didn't want to name names but I have owned, raced and toured on three Mercians both solo's were horrid but the Tandem was and still is superb. There should have been nothing wrong with them both had Nervex lugs and 531DB tubes but they were real dogs. Just dead as a Dodo. Similary regarding Hetchins owned four, Magnum Opus curly excellent, Brilliant curly brilliant, Vade Mecum Superb No2 when it was a curly rode like a dog the previous owner had it converted to a straight after a crash via Cyril Munday and Ephgraves (Alf was to expensive for the repair) previous owner said you would not believe the diffrerence. I did have a curly Nulli Secundus another real dud. What is the explanation?Leach Marathons had a pretty bad reputation for being duff in our club.Has anybody else had similar experiences?
