Mark, It sounds as if your bottom bracket has Swiss threading but I don't quite know what to say about your headset. I've found that some French bikes had their steering tubes reamed to accept 22.2mm (i.e. "standard") stems, even though the headset diameter and threading used the French specifications. I suppose it's possible to thread a "standard" headset race onto a French steerer but I would expect it to be too loose a fit to work properly (if it's possible at all). It's hard to say when (and if) a particular French manufacturer switched to English/ISO threading. It all seems to depend on which model your looking at, whether the frame in question was intended to be exported and I suspect parts availability. Best regards, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia
