But I always liked the Stronglight 93, and am considering "upgrading" to it. The PX's of the era came with the 93. Can I get some feedback of the relative quality differences between these two cranksets? Is the 49D a steel crank arm? Are there any problem areas or things to watch with either of these? Are there any specific BB concerns?"

I've used lots of 49D cranks, and lots of 93s, and like them both. Both are aluminum alloy, both take the same hard-to-find but different from TA threading. The 49d was introduced earlier, and by the 60s was more associated with touring. That's because it uses the 5-pin attachment circle shared with TA, Williams, etc (but not Zeus). Gave lots of options for chain rings. The 93 has the wonderful truss-looking web, but a small ring limitation of 38 teeth.

There is also a rare "transition" model (63) with the slender 49d arms but the 93 web and rings.
