I see a need for two tests. 1) two "identical" frames, same tubes, fittings, dimensions etc., build by the same top-notch person in the same way. One ridden for, say, 20,000 miles the other is brand spanking new. Both have new paint and identiacl new parts. But are set up the same. A rider does multiple "blind" rides. We assess A) can he consistently resolve one bike from the other? B) This done, can he say which is the older bike? 2) Everything is the same. Both bikes "built" by the same guy except he only brazes one and does this to the best of his abilities. The other is brazed by a production builder using his normal technique. Perhaps one more could be brazed by me. I soldered copper plumbing once. Would there be diffs among them? Replicates (and a statistician) will be needed. Hey, I've been gonna get a blind test together and will pay any testers well. Seriously, this has been a passion for me for decades to try to put to rest the myriad of opinions about stiffness, performance, and comfort. I have chapters on 'perceprion' and 'materials' in my forthcoming book '120,000 wheels'

It will set many a bunko opinionizer to rest and set riders apart from writers
