Almost 20 years ago I bought an SR SemiPro bike from Frank Walburg out of a hole-in-the-wall bike shop in Santa Rosa, CA. Frank went on to open the Pedal Pusher shop and start 1-800-Bikepro mail order and end his bike biz career in a blaze with the incredibly detailed printed Buyers Guide that I still pull out for details on period parts.

Anyway, it was a decent lugged steel bike, equipped with Shimano's recent Deore parts group. I toured the San Juans and Vancouver Island on it and rode it a lot until I got sidetracked into mountain biking.

Frank told me that SR was a totally made up name by the guys who imported it, had nothing to do with any parts groups with SR in their name, but I don't know what factory the frames came out of.

I'm sure someone on the list sold them back in the day and can tell you more about their origin. Like so many Japanese bikes of that time, they were a good value and decent quality for the money. Just no Euro mojo.

Hi All,

Could anyone tell me about the bike brand "SR"? I can't seem to find much on it around the internet. The model I'm specifically interested in is the "Semi Pro" - but basically anything on the brand SR would be appreciated. If it helps, one of the decals on the bike has SR on top of a British looking shield.

Thanks,
