From the Campagnolo Timeline at: http://www.velo-retro.com

"1948 - Campagnolo's first foreign plant (assembling and finishing) is built in Cognin, France; quick release lever stamped "Made in France." Gino Bartali wins the 1948 Tour de France using a Cambio Corsa derailleur."

My guess: Campagnolo, F.B. and others set up plants in France because of post WWII restrictions on export from Italy? Anyone else have any ideas?
