David, Basically, many of us had bikes like that. I also had the opportunity to see what people did in this situation it Italy at that time. Sadly, some of the "cheaper" parts might still be quite expensive today. But here goes... - Derailleurs: Nuovo Record (I didn't notice too much scrimping in this area) - Sift Levers: also NR or perhaps the cheaper Campy parts - Hubs: Miche, the less expensive Campy (or you might still see NR pieces) - Brakes/Levers: Universal or Weinmann - Seatpost: _not_ Campy. (e.g. the TTT post that's probably heavier that a straight alloy post and separate clamp) - Crankset: I had to save this for last because it's the trickiest bit in some ways. The answer is... whatever was less expensive than NR! In Italy people were not afraid to still use steel cranksets at that time. Usually these would be from Magistroni, which means that finding one today might still be expensive. I'm trying to remember which non-Campy Italian cotterless cranksets were available. Miche, perhaps? Back here, I'd see lots of Nervar cranks on an otherwise all-Italian bike.
