All the ti spindles I have seen (Stronglight, Teledyne and Campagnolo) have pressed on steel bearing races. Ti would make a _very_ poor bearing race.

Yes, one would have a lot of gall to make a ti bearing race (hee, hee).

But even with the steel inserts on spindle and cups, the SR BB's are none too durable. The 3/16" balls cause the races to pit more quickly. The same problem was seen with the C-record, altough I assume the problem was reduced by going to the 7/32" size in later production.

I assume the smaller balls were used because there was simply less space due to races being pressed onto, rather than machined into, the cups and spindle.

Personally, when it comes to BB's, steel is most certainly real! My C-record bike is "C-Rec reduced" with a Croce BB (NR cups, shorter spindle).
