Hello all, again, Lawrence asked about the reputation of Miele bikes. Is this brand name in any way related to the bikes built in Guetersloh, Germany, from 1927 to 1962? They were *very* well made tourers and sporting bikes. Many specimens still adorn Germany´s roads. They were easily identifiable by the globe logo on the headbadge/nameplate. Ann, (welcome, by the way,) you would love having those in the shop!

Nowadays Miele still is in existence as one of the largest household appliance manufacturers, up-market, too. They run a fantastic museum in the old, family-owned Guetersloh works, about one mile from where I used to work some years ago. I have some recollection that they´re also on the net with snaps; might be wrong, though.

Now, for those of you who have some command of German, two slogans from the thirties.

"Miele, Miele, sagt die Tante, die alle Waschmaschinen kannte."

"Du kommst sehr schnell und leicht zum Ziele, Fährst Du ein Fahrrad Marke Miele."

Do I already hear some rustling of dictionaries?

Yours, Toni, Osnabrueck, Germany.
