In the 1950's there were a few makes of alloy cottered cranks about Allez marketed by Holdsworth and GB to name two. The only experience I had of these is when I raced as a schoolboy in the early sixties. One of our older club members gave me a set of three pin Allez alloy cranks and chain wheel. This was common practice then to help and equip young members and schoolboys with better quality equipment when the older ones updated with newer or "gen" equipment. These cranks were fine for lightweight schoolboys but the chain rings were poor and wore out very quickly. Still have them somewhere.
