Several List Members have asked me to post what I found out about Art Stump who made such beautiful bikes. Several folks told me about Art stump and what emerged was a picture of a kind and generous man who build bikes mostly as a hobby. I am told he only built a few dozen. He worked as a jeweler and restorer of classic cars, built and repaired bikes as a hobby. One person told me of visiting Art to get a repair done and Art felt sorry for the young man because he was a college student with strained finances and did some major repair work for only $10. I gather Mr. Stump is now 88 years old and confined to a wheelchair, but still sharp mentally. His wife passed away a couple of years ago and it was very hard on him. He is presently living in Los Osos, California. Brandon Ives tells me he and Fred Parr are planning to do an interview with him soon. I am looking forward to hearing more about that. If any list members have not seen the pictures that have been posted of A.D.Stump bikes, they can contact me and I will send them a few as a jpeg file. I am told Art would probably like to hear from folks admiring his work and I will post the address and phone number that Fred Parr kindly furnished. A D Stump 805-528-8635
