David and all, I better put out a legal disclaimer at the end of this post.

I mistakenly said that the metal joining the steerer to the fork crown in my Father's BROKEN viscount fork was aluminum. A quick call to him confirmed that the piece that failed was steel. The broken fork looks nice in the basement, and on my next visit I will try to take a few pictures with his digital camera.

So, steel or not, I would not recommend riding one of these forks (my legal disclaimer).
