Subject: [CR]Date a classic Cinelli ?

Gang -

We now have 50 Cinellis on the classic Cinelli register at

http://www.petry.org/markp/cinolog.htm

Of the bikes listed, the sales dates of 12 of these bikes can be correlated from the Spence Wolf logs from Cupertino Bike Shop.

However, these same logs show 100s of Cinellis (along with Alex Singer, Hetchins, etc) that were sold in the 60s and 70s. I'm very optimistic that there are lots more bikes still to come out of the woodwork at garage sales, swap meets, and of course Ebay.

There is absolutely NO pattern to the serial numbers, which lends credence to the bikes being built by subcontractors. The Wolf logs do allow us to infer the approximate date of manufacture from the serial number, as well as certain design features such as lugs, BB type, etc.

To add your Cinelli to the list, send and email to mark@petry.org with the word "Cinelli Project" in the subject line. Please include details such as original owner (if known) along with paint, condition, and your location.

I might consider doing an Alex Singer list next. Would anyone else consider doing a Masi owner's register? Such a "database" is a great way to keep track of these wonderful machines.

And let's get out there and find those missing bikes! Where the heck did they go? I'm hitting the garage sales this year as folks do their spring cleaning. Maybe I'll run across another classic Cinelli, or just be disappointed by the Porsche RSK or Lockheed P-38 in unflown condition.. price $75 or offer.
