This thread reminded me of a bike I built a long time ago.

In the late 70's I worked at Cycles Peugeot in California. While there, I purchased several PX-10 frames and forks that had been returned under the warranty program. I got them for next to nothing with the agreement that I would strip the frames before using them, thus obliterating any reference to Peugeot. I could not find any problem with these frames other than cosmetic damage.

Around 1983 I was trying to get my wife to share my love of cycling. She was afraid of riding, and a heavy smoker (Camels). I took a 21" PX-10 frame and stripped it to bare metal. I airbrushed several primer coats, then about 50 coats of silver, purple metalflake, and clear, hand-rubbed between each coat. It was lacquer, a poor choice for durability, but it sure looked pretty when it was done. I built it up with short, flat alloy handlebars and a 3 speed SA hub. Alloy crankset (Stronglight, I think, I had lots of those kicking around back then) and center pull brakes, probably Mafac, a wide, tan leather seat, either Brooks or Ideale, I forget. What a sweet little lightweight 3 speed it was.

She left me in '84. Took the bike with her. This all got me thinking how much I'd love to see that bike again. But not her. Please God, not her :).
