Yup ,
The "Schwinn Approved" brakes were made either by Weinmann ( Switzerland ) or by Dia Compe ( Japan ) . And , of course , the Dia Compe brakes were an exact copy of the Weinmanns . The "swing-away" method of quick release on the Dia Compe levers is one big clue . But , Schwinn definitely mixed the levers & the calipers . So , just knowing who made the levers does not tell you who made the calipers . The Dia Compe brakes are amazingly exact copies .
The fact that the bicycle has Mafac brakes means that it was almost certainly not "new" or "untouched" in that box .
The optional Campagnolo brakes , on the Paramounts from the early 1970's , added a huge amount to the purchase price .

Yes! That's the way it was! You could buy the entire 1972 bicycle ( with good brakes ) for $ 350 . But , if you wanted to upgrade to the optional Campagnolo brakes , it would have cost you an extra $ 50 !! That was more than 14 % additional , and they still got to keep the standard ( good ) brakes !!
