'Back in the day' the first thing you did was grab your pattern file and rework the Campagnolo Record crank where the arm met the spider. The web there comes to knife edge that needs to be radiused so the typical small crack that develops with use doesn't have a chance to start.

Another thing I used to do was take the Silca frame pump aluminum sleeve and cut it down to the first rib. Much more finished looking than just tossing it away like a lot of people did in the 70s.

I also used to file off all the casting (forging) seams on the pedals and the front derailleur arms and then polish. These are not anodized anyway so it's easy to do.

Question: why are some of the Campagnolo Record / Nuovo Record parts polished and some are anodized?
