Threaten to take up golf. Around here,a round of golf on the weekends takes up a 4-5 hour chunk of time on the weekends and can cost $50 and more per round. Plus a couple weeknights spent at the driving range, the constant search for the right driver, the need for a new set of clubs way too often, finding yourself with a large collection of putters (because everyone knows each putter has a finite number of putts in it). And improvement books, lessons, teaching aids, not to mention the time spent watching golf on TV. Take up golf and your spouse will beg you to buy more bikes instead. Jay Van De Velde Seal Beach, CA
