I want to chime in here, because I don't own anything older than 1973....

In my humble, comparatively uneducated (bicycle wise), and generally moot opinion, my vote for discussions on this ring would include anything that is "friction" shifting. I would say that bicycles lost their "classic" appeal when they brought the downtube shifters up, and, arguably, when Shimano introduced index shifting (incidentally, right when I started bicycle racing).

There you go. Now I am going to duck and get out of the way....

PS: Isn't this the fifth or hundredth time this has been talked about???
