Apparently this is controversial. I found this abstract of a study published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine, titled "CHRYSOTILE ASBESTOS IS THE MAIN CAUSE OF PLEURAL MESOTHELIOMA" [their shouting, not mine] Sample quote: "Studies indicated that: chrysotile asbestos is a potent cause of pleural mesothelioma" http://infoventures.com/osh/abs/asbs0006.html

Since it is so OT, maybe we should just leave it as "controversial" and not try to prove one side or the other here.
