I have been led to believe that there was an agreement between Tullio and the powers that be at Mavic that they would divide the roles of official road support for all the main bike races. Campagnolo would supply the components and Mavic the rims. When Mavic started producing components, Campagnolo immediately set about making rims out of anger. As was mentioned earlier, their first rims were very good and immediately eclipsed many long-standing rim makers.
