Subject: [CR]Excel "Cambio Rino" (Lon haldeman)

In 1981 just before attending Marine Corps boot camp I rode a century with Lon Haldeman, and he rode a Specialized Allez, with a Biopace 2000 (very cool) , but don't remember the gruppo. I met him through the new owner of Paul's Bike Shop, Urbna Illinois, where I worked as a miscreant "gopher" and semi-mechanic. Fritz was instrumental in getting Susan Notarangelo into long distance cycling. He introduced her to Lon, and history goes from there.

Anyhow, I wish I could get a group of those Excel Rino parts he rode later under sponsor. They are listed as low quality in "The Dancing Chain" but I think Lon would have ridden only top quality parts. Any help here? Never see them on Ebay.

Lon rode a Ron Boi (RBB) aerobike, which a similar ride Susan rode (smaller but same Ron Boi frame) to a 24 hour distance record right next to my home. I was able to ride behind her, did only 40 miles due to time I think, and remember that record to this day. I have no idea if it still stands but it was memorable.

If anybody has good info on the true quality and history of these parts, or a personal inventory in hand, please let me or the group know.

Thanks,
