To amuse myself, I occasionally bid against them, just to drive the price up. I know that a counterbid will virtually certainly click in promptly, to relieve me of any obligation to buy the item. And, of course, I only bid on things I would actually like to own, just in case I unexpectedly win. :-) Sellers, no need to thank me.

Peter- Your rude comments are not welcome on this list. Also, I think it's unethical to "drive prices up" like you say you do to "amuse" yourself. I remember trying to negotiate the sale of a complete late 60's Peugeot PX-10 to you at Veloswap... You countered my $105 asking price by writing out a check for $75 and thrusting it at me.
