i have to second this recommendation (ill consider anything e-richie says he selects to put on his bikes to be a recommendation :) )

while modern, i use nothing but fir rims for my work bike - excellent, excellent rims - they built straight and true, and take a beating. and theyre usually laced to quite cr-period sturmey archer alloy-body aws! (a 1953 right now...)

ive had excellent experience with their less-modern rims as well.
