Just recieved the modified version of the Pacenti fork crown to go with the lug set that I am currently carving. The new crown has a little more "meat" where it was shy before in terms of room to work. I haven't tried to work the crown into my design yet; but I'm sure I can make something out of it that compliments my lug design.

Thanks Kirk, for sending this stuff along. I was wondering what crown would go with this set. Now I have it! I have a lot of work I'm trying to get finished, so this will take a little time. But the results will be worth it. I wouldn't mind seeing my design in use, but the possibility of someone seeking my expertise for lug designing has never materialized. Not sure why. So far, nothing available has impressed me with it's style or finished shape to the point that I would not modify it in some way. Conversly, I've seen tons of lugs cast that are either copies of typical lug designs of the past, or present poor curves and no room to fix them. Some cast lugs even go so far as to do things to the mould that make it more difficult to capture the traditional "feel" of a lugged frame design. I don't see the point of that. Since lug profiling has been going on for nearly a century; nothing is totally new. But there are designs that have character, interesting and properly perportioned lines and curves, and leave room to work also, that are not being made. Why not? Everything is just being rehashed. I don't see the point. I like Kirks' approach, and yet I can see the value of a cast lug that is finished and ready to go as is that has style and is not a copy of anything else that has been done before.
