How the bicycle was equipped had a lot to do with what distributor the reseller was buying from. This was Colnago's most esoteric model at the time, and would have typically been equipped with the full panto'd SR, but most did come with Modolo shifters. I'm not sure on the brakes, because almost all the CX's I've encountered were bought as framesets, and then equipped as the customer wanted.

'83 seems to be the year of the CX. However, I don't enough catalogs to support claiming that the CX was available in other years. But, it did not appear in catalogs '85 and later. Interestingly, the '86 catalog does show a time trial version of the CX called the "Crono CX". It looks to be the exact same frame as the '83 road version, except with a 26" front, and different paint scheme.

I've seen these stock CX finishes:

a) Polished chrome with Cromovelato red b) " " " " blue c) Brushed/satin chrome d) Metallic brown (subjective) w/ polished chrome

I saw a catalog listing the Colnago Oval CX as a frameset. The only one I have seen "in the flesh" had the same -- but different paint scheme as the only picture I ever saw of this bike on the Net (a high gloss blue.) The bike I saw was also equipped like the photo I saw, SR gruppo, pantagraphed, Modolo Kronos brakes and Modolo shiftees. Was this a "stock" offering and was this a one year only model? And what year? Dave Novoselsky
