What if the builder takes IC lugs out of the box and alters them?

When Curt used Kirk Pacenti's lugs for the bike featured at http: //www.bikelugs.com/pacentigallery/goodrich_galleryindex.html, it doesn't look like that were modified much, except to put in a window and shorten a point.

Is this artisanship? Craftsmanship? Assembly?

What if one builder uses box-stock lugs, but uses exceptional care in mitering the tubes, brazing, finish-filing, etc., while another builders modifies the lugs to make them look really pretty, but doesn't take care mitering the tubes, brazing, or finish-filing?

To paraphrase Lance Armstrong, "It's not about the lug" ... well, it is to some extent, but there's so much more ... and Joe, I've seen some of your work, and you're a pretty amazing builder too . . you should know this.
