As my McLean project nears completion, I'm pretty much down to the handlebars and brake levers and bar end shifters to redo and then assemble it. I have hit a snag. The bars are encased in a leather that has turned a nasty blotchy brown but otherwise seems worth saving. I think I will have to dye it black. Friends say that the dye will forever come off on my hands if I do. Does anyone have a recommendation as to what to use to dye it with that will avoid this as much as possible? In a worse case scenario I can just cut it off and wrap the bar, but I'd rather save it if possible.
Thanks to all,
