One problem with the Lyotard 45D, probably the most common on high-end bikes, if that it is rather narrow. Even with my fairly small size 8 1/2 feet, I'm OK with narrow cycling shoes, but tennis shoes are too wide for the pedal, and the outside of the shoe winds up pressing down on the top of the quill. I've ordered 3 pairs of the current TAs, which I expect are wider. If the 45Ds on my commuting bike (a 1972 Follis mod 172) are French (I have to check), they may be replaced with TA.

But, going against popularity, even though they are fine pedals and nice to look at, neither the TAs nor the Phil Wood CHPs are as light and as free spinning and as comfortable and as inexpensive as the Lyotard pedals that I replaced and hope soon to go back to (except that I now need to buy BSC threaded Lyotards).
