Years ago I used size L Christophes with a couple of thin washers between the clip and pedal cage with my size 44 feet. After riding clipless for 15 years, I returned to clips/straps and found I really needed XL to get about the same position I'd been used to. I also found out how fast plastic cleats wear out non-anodized T.A. cages-less than a year (and not my only ride) and the cleat side has no semi-circular cutouts and the shoe contacts the struts!
