I never thought they were!!! I have not "flatted" very often in approximately 35 yrs of riding "narrow" tires, and the majority have been tubular tires. Fact is, I have had only 2 flats with tubulars since 1971!!!! I have had 3 flats with clinchers since 1980 (the year I first started using clinchers). I vividly remember many of my friends (clincher users!!) having flats in the early to late 70's. The majority of the clincher flats in those days were "pinch type" flats, or directly related to rim strip "problems."

Although tubulars have their own idiosynchrosies, I don't think they are more prone to flats than clinchers - I would vote the opposite!!!!
