Hi Mark,

Cannot speak for the TA Cyclotourist, but this is what I can tell you.

I've been riding for 4 years on a Shimano 7 speed freewheel and have had no problems. While 53/42 may be a bit steep, a 52/39 is really do able, especially if you are 28 tooth in your lowest gear. I sell a ton of em in the shop for any bike, old, or just cheap, that needs a freewheel.

I've also had great success sending customers with old bikes out with SRAMs PC48 chain. The chain I have precedes SRAM - its a Sachs <g>. Never any problems with any derailleur. Its also about 14.00. I can see why people might want a Regina freewheel and chain, but I see those things as somewhat consumable (I spent too much time riding MTBs) and expensive. I'm also trying to achieve a gear combination that is easy and the 28 works well.
