Stronglight and TA axles definitely had a different taper. Sutherland's mentions this explicitly, though he cites the opposite problem, that of Stronglight arms bottoming out on Campy/Sugino axles.

Subject: [CR]stronglight taper question

> Hi Folks,I've been lurking long enough to know this topic is done to death, but I was hoping someone might have some specific advice. I've been hearing creaks coming from the left crank (Sugino track) on my fixed (Rudge Clubman) despite having tightened it down. So, I pull off the crank; edges of the spindle hole look fine, no apparent cracks. Being a new bike to me and having taken one arm off already, I proceed to overhaul the BB and find a Stronglight spindle inside. Warning bells are beginning to sound in the distance, but I'm tired and just Want Things to Work Again. Put on the left arm, tighten her down, and out of curiousity back off the bolt: the crank has bottomed out on the spindle. The questions are a) was this due to incompatibility or wear and tear? and b) is there a spindle with a longer taper surface to perhaps correct this? Thanks,David RodanPhilly, PA
