hello everybody,

I have to pipe up (rather than down) I guess since I am the very happy owner of the canary yellow (ferrari yellow, I believe dale once said) tesch 101 that dale attached in his original response to this thread.

my devoted love of the tesch began with a '97 'what the editors ride' article in BICYCLING (others being an erickson, davidson, serotta, and, I seem to remember, cannondale) and a later article with a quasi interview with dt himself in '89 (actually, I believe, the greg tour issue)--

article #2 equated the riding and handling style of the 101 to a porsche 911 (I believe dave said something to the effect of 'well, the 911 isn't for everyone either--are you man enough?')

not necessarily feeling man enough myself, but feeling young and foolish (as I fearfully do too often) I purchased the frame from an anonomous bicycle dealer with a quick wit and easy smile, located near a donut shop in greensboro, north carolina.

I can happily report, although I have never driven a 911, that the tesch rides JUST LIKE IT! well, at least it makes you want to be the fastest man on earth and sometimes you kind of feel that way until you start getting all huffy and puffy etc., that is, if you are me. in a moment of modernity recently, I test rode a few of the up to the minute modern young lover bicycles that everyone squeals about (not on this list, necessarily) and returned, happily, to my tesch which, for whatever reason, strikes the perfect balance between roadrunner beep beep speediness and ease of living on a seat for a few hours.

presumably, according to the editors, the 101 and s-22 handle identically. hard to see them responding identically due to the oversize tubing on the s-22. but I agree with brian (and who would dare not to?) that the graphics very much suit the tubing and the general aesthetic of the bike frame, and offer a very nice quasi-psychedelic counterpoint to the classic graphics of the 101 ('built for speed'.) the fade thing, well, I am sorry, it suques, as the french might say. doesn't work here. truly, though, does it ever really work? the last time I loved a fade was with the fishnet look on a colnago master piu, purchased again from a nice greensboro person.

as for dave: can anyone box him up and bring him to the cirque as a carry-on? I bet brian could--and would. all he needs is a little encouragement.
