For everyday riding and training I would recommend a fixed gear ratio of 65 or 66." This is the fixed gear ratio I always ride and can still comfortably climb most average hills on.In Britain in the old days all early season 25 mile TT were restricted to gears of 72" and under. In the unrestricted events it was the norm to race on gears of between 77"-81". Some hard men rode 84 or 86. The ratios for schoolboys and juniors were set much lower.
