Subject: [CR]Vintage Baldy Ride THIS WEEKEND

There will be a strictly informal vintage ride THIS SATURDAY, starting at 10am, for those SoCal riders interested in a challenging, but very enjoyable, very scenic route.

I know this is short notice, but the weather will turn hot any day now, and I wanted to do this route again before the San Gabriel Valley area does its usual Summer imitation of a brick oven over a hot fire. ;> Weather is predicted to be sunny and mild, this weekend, however.

Start: 10am sharp, Pioneer Park in Azusa. Corner of Sierra Madre and Dalton. Ride four miles to Glendora Mountain Road. Glendora Mountain and Glendora Ridge road are *closed* to motorized traffic right now! Which is the other reason to do this ride: no cars for 24 miles! Ride up Glendora Mountain Road to Glendora Ridge Road, to Baldy Village. 24 miles of climbing, to approximately 4500 feet, through beautiful alpine terrain. We will stop to rest at the small park at the Angeles National Forest Visitors' Center.

Return: A fast, exciting down-hill from Baldy Village back to Pioneer Park. About 40 miles round-trip.

I will be there at 9:30. Bring your mountain gears!

For liability reasons, I want to make clear that this is a purely informal ride. Not organized, not supported. I'm going to do the route, and anyone who happens to come along is welcome. This is a challenging route, requiring basic fitness and expert bike-handling skills on the down-hill, which does include auto traffic. Helmets are probably a good idea, as are alpine gears. And plenty of water. There is no water on the hill.

If you've never done this route before, don't miss it. Who knows how much longer the road will be closed?

I would appreciate e-mail from you if you plan to come, so I can have a sense of who to expect.
