Nath - Having read your insights on framebuilding and music before reading this post, I was kinda hoping your being a "Broccoli Band Boy" meant being a member of a polka or other musical band. You even celebrate these produce rubber bands as "unsung heroes." Maybe it's a calling for you in addition to recycling? Joe Starck, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

I had the same problem with my Zefal under my top tube. What I wound up doing is probably less visually appealing than your solution.

Broccoli bands. I love those things. They're not just for broccoli and bicycle pumps, either--they have all sorts of uses!

My frame's a deep purple, and the broccoli band is a medium purple, so it complements the frame well. A blue broccoli band would look okay, though not quite as nice. I stretched it to three thicknesses and slipped it over the handle of the Zefal so that it buffers the pump at its widest point on the bumpier pavement. Works pretty well, I think.

It's not as clean as a Lizard Skin . . . but it was free. (And I recently discovered lots more broccoli and asparagus bands on a ledge above the fresh produce at a local store; the manager said to take whatever I wanted, so I now I have a good supply of these unsung marvels!)
