Assuming that it can't be overtapped to Italian threading, a Mavic bottom bracket might solve your woes... They show up on eBay on occasion. They do require that the BB shell is chamfered but that isn't much of a complication.

I believe that my LBS has a Stronglight equivalent to the Mavic in stock. Anyone know about the Stronglight model and whether it is still in production?
