Ray - I'd be curious where you got the bike. It looks very much like one that I put back together at the request of a bike shop that just had not had the time to do it. That one had one broken RH brake arm, so I was forced to replace the front with the best I could find. I also managed to mangle one chainring, not having noticed that it was only bolted loosely when we did a test ride. It was an era when we did our best, but there just wasn't access to the 'net for tracking down such rarities as the brake arms -- or $$ to replicate them. My marching orders were to get it back together and rideable. Boy, was that an awesome-looking machine, with the oval bb lugs and all! My memory is that I was told that the owner was a doctor.

I vote strongly for keeping it intact. BTW, I've found some blind folk to be wonderful stokers, and happy to get the opportunity, even have known some who bought their own tandems. One trick is that the sight-less never overcorrect by shifting their weight in turns. I could probably help you get together with the N. Jersey tandem folks through friends.

harvey Sachs. mcLean Va, but recovering from 2 decades in nice parts of NJ...

I'm just referencing Ray's posting on his chromed, lugged RH tandem; seems too long to re-post, but great tingler to read.
