Anodizing is a bit tricky, because you have to remove the steel parts prior to anodizing.

I've got black hubs on a couple of my own bikes that I did by just using Krylon rattlecan spray paint. The hub is quite well protected against stuff bumping into it, so you don't need a baked enamel finish. These have held up quite well and still look great.
