My '69 Atala came with NY derailleurs, a 14-28 freewheel and 52-42 chainrings. I've always kept the axle mounted in the center of the long style Campy dropouts. I still have this bike and have never changed the cog sizes, although I have replace worn out parts, of course. Anyway, it shifts as well as any other NR bike that I've had occasion to ride. I think the real key, especially with larger cogs, is to use a laterally stiff chain. Best regards, Fred Rednor
